Students share conflict resolution skills with community partner Posted on December 10th, 2013 by

Our partnership with LifeWorks culminated with a student-led training session for LifeWorks Director Connie Giles and her staff in Mankato, and Volunteer Coordinator Kath Pengelly. Management students offered a dialogue in which a supervisor does not clearly communicate work-related requirements to his subordinate, resulting in task and inter-personal conflict. Using concrete principles of communication that preserve relationships while being honest with employees, students shared potential resolutions to the problems in the scenario. They did a great job answering questions about the real conflict issues LifeWorks staff encounter.

As always I appreciate the support that Jeffrey Rathlef, Director of Community-Based Learning, provides. He joined us for the event and offered great comments from his long experience with CBL. Great stuff- the College community should be proud of how these students presented themselves as representatives of Gustavus!
